Joonkyung Lee works in extremal and probabilistic combinatorics. His research concerns the occurrence of particular substructures in graphs and other discrete structures under various constraints, with particular interests in Sidorenko's conjecture, graph norms, graph homomorphism inequalities, extremal graph theory, and pseudorandomness.
He received his B.S. and M.S. in Mathematical Sciences from KAIST and his D.Phil. from the University of Oxford under the supervision of David Conlon. After postdoctoral positions at Oxford, the University of Hamburg, and University College London, he held faculty positions at Hanyang University and Yonsei University before joining KIAS in September 2026.
