(String Journal Club) The Dashen-Ma-Bernstein Formalism and scattering based thermodynamics
ABSTRACT
The Dashen-Ma-Bernstein (DMB) formalism is a framework for describing thermodynamic quantities of interacting quantum system in terms of scattering description. Originally it is developed in the context of relativistic statistical mechanics, and it relates the density of states and the grand potential to the S-matrix. In this talk, I will review the motivation and derivation of the original DMB formalism, emphasizing its interpretation as a scattering theoretic formulation of thermodynamics. Also I will present a simple application to an interacting scalar field theory.
