The Riemannian Schwarzschild manifold is one of the most important examples of asymptotically flat manifolds. However, the fact that ADM mass is positive limits the existence of certain minimal surfaces, unlike Euclidean spaces. This talk briefly discusses why free boundary minimal surfaces like the catenoid end cannot exist in the Schwarzschild manifold.
