TITLE | Point vortex motion in two-dimensional fluids |
ABSTRACT | A drastic simplification of the two-dimensional incompressible fluid motion is provided by the point vortex dynamics. In this viewpoint, the vorticity of the fluid is given by a finite number of dirac deltas with different strengths. Then the dynamics is given explicitly by a system of ODEs governing the location of the point vortices. Some interesting long-time dynamics can be seen even in the completely integrable cases. We then present some classical results connecting point vortex dynamics with actual solutions of the incompressible fluid equation. |
