ABSTRACT | We report on universality in boundary domain growth in cluster aggregation in the limit of maximum concentration. Maximal concentration means that the diffusivity of the clusters is effectively zero and, instead, clusters merge successively in a percolation process, which leads to a sudden growth of the boundary domains. For two-dimensional square lattices of linear dimension $L$, independent of the models studied here, we find that the maximum of the boundary interface width, the susceptibility $chi$, exhibits the scaling $chi sim L^{gamma}$ with the universal exponent $gamma = 1$. The rapid growth of the boundary domain at the percolation threshold, which is guaranteed to occur for almost {em any} cluster percolation process, underlies the the universal scaling of $chi$. |

ABSTRACT | Theoretical analysis, which maps single molecule time trajectories of a molecular motor onto unicyclic Markov processes, allows us to evaluate the heat dissipated from the motor and to elucidate its dependence on the mean velocity and diffusivity. Unlike passive Brownian particles in equilibrium, the velocity and diffusion constant of molecular motors are closely inter-related to each other. In particular, our study makes it clear that the increase of diffusivity with the heat production is a natural outcome of active particles, which is reminiscent of the recent experimental premise that the diffusion of an exothermic enzyme is enhanced by the heat released from its own catalytic turnover. Compared with freely diffusing exothermic enzymes, kinesin-1 whose dynamics is confined on one-dimensional tracks is highly efficient in transforming conformational fluctuations into a locally directed motion, thus displaying a significantly higher enhancement in diffusivity with its turnover rate. Putting molecular motors and freely diffusing enzymes on an equal footing, our study offers thermodynamic basis to understand the heat enhanced self-diffusion of exothermic enzymes. |

ABSTRACT | Single molecule time trajectories of biomolecules provide glimpses into complex folding landscapes that are difficult to visualize using conventional ensemble measurements. Recent experiments and theoretical analyses have highlighted dynamic disorder in certain classes of biomolecules, whose dynamic pattern of conformational transitions is affected by slower transition dynamics of internal state hidden in a low dimensional projection. A systematic means to analyze such data is, however, currently not well developed. Here we report a new algorithm - Variational Bayes-double chain Markov model (VB- DCMM) - to analyze single molecule time trajectories that display dynamic disorder. The proposed analysis employing VB-DCMM allows us to detect the presence of dynamic disorder, if any, in each trajectory, identify the number of internal states, and estimate transition rates between the internal states as well as the rates of conformational transition within each internal state. Applying VB-DCMM algorithm to single molecule FRET data of H-DNA in 100 mM-Na+ solution, followed by data clustering, we show that at least 6 kinetic paths linking 4 distinct internal states are required to correctly interpret the duplex-triplex transitions of H-DNA. |

ABSTRACT | Instanton partition functions of N=1 5d Super Yang-Mills reduced on S1 can be engineered in type IIB string theory from the (p,q)-branes web diagram. To this diagram is superimposed a web of representations of the Ding-Iohara-Miki (DIM) algebra that acts on the partition function. In this correspondence, each segment is associated to a representation, and the (topological string) vertex is identified with the intertwiner operator constructed by Awata, Feigin and Shiraishi. We define a new intertwiner acting on the representation spaces of levels (1,n)⊗(0,m)→(1,n+m), thereby generalizing to higher rank m the original construction. It allows us to use a folded version of the usual (p,q)-web diagram, bringing great simplifications to actual computations. As a result, the characterization of Gaiotto states and vertical intertwiners, previously obtained by some of the authors, is uplifted to operator relations acting in the Fock space of horizontal representations. We further develop a method to build qq-characters of linear quivers based on the horizontal action of DIM elements. While fundamental qq-characters can be built using the coproduct, higher ones require the introduction of a (quantum) Weyl reflection acting on tensor products of DIM generators. |

ABSTRACT | We study the properties of satellites in the environment of massive star-forming galaxies at z ~ 1.8 in the COSMOS field, using a sample of 215 galaxies on the main sequence of star formation with an average mass of ~1011M⊙. At z> 1.5, these galaxies typically trace halos of mass ≳1013M⊙. We use optical-near-infrared photometry to estimate stellar masses and star formation rates (SFR) of centrals and satellites down to ~ 6 × 109M⊙. We stack data around 215 central galaxies to statistically detect their satellite halos, finding an average of ~3 galaxies in excess of the background density. We fit the radial profiles of satellites with simple β-models, and compare their integrated properties to model predictions. We find that the total stellar mass of satellites amounts to ~68% of the central galaxy, while spectral energy distribution modeling and far-infrared photometry consistently show their total SFR to be 25-35% of the centrals rate. We also see significant variation in the specific SFR of satellites within the halo with, in particular, a sharp decrease at <100 kpc. After considering different potential explanations, we conclude that this is likely an environmental signature of the hot inner halo. This effect can be explained in the first order by a simple free-fall scenario, suggesting that these low-mass environments can shut down star formation in satellites on relatively short timescales of ~0.3 Gyr. |

ABSTRACT | We establish the freeness of certain anticyclotomic Selmer groups of modular forms. The freeness of these Selmer groups plays a key role in the Euler system arguments introduced in [BD05]. In particular, our result fills some implicit gaps in [PW11] and [CH15] which in turn allows the results of these papers to hold for modular forms whose residual representations are not minimally ramified. Removing these minimal ramification conditions is essential for applications of congruences of modular forms to anticyclotomic Iwasawa theory as in [PW11, §7] and [Kim]. |

ABSTRACT | The main purpose of this article is to examine how congruences between Hecke eigensystems of modular forms affect the Iwasawa invariants of their anticyclotomic p-adic L-functions. We apply Greenberg- Vatsal and Emerton-Pollack-Westons ideas on the variation of Iwasawa invariants under congruences to the anticyclotomic setting. As an application, we establish infinitely many new examples of the anticyclotomic main conjecture for modular forms, which cannot be treated by Skinner-Urbans work. An explicit example is given. |

ABSTRACT | Layered transition metal dichalcogenides MoTe2 and WTe2 share almost similar lattice constants as well as topological electronic properties except their structural phase transitions. While the former shows a first-order phase transition between monoclinic and orthorhombic structures, the latter does not. Using a recently proposed van der Waals density functional method, we investigate structural stability of the two materials and uncover that the disparate phase transitions originate from delicate differences between their interlayer bonding states near the Fermi energy. By exploiting the relation between the structural phase transitions and the low energy electronic properties, we show that a charge doping can control the transition substantially, thereby suggesting a way to stabilize or to eliminate their topological electronic energy bands. |

ABSTRACT | Chemical modification of graphene with adatoms is of importance for nanoelectronics applications. Based on first-principles density-functional theory calculations including van der Waals interactions, we present a comparative study of the diffusion characteristics of oxygen (O) and fluorine (F) atoms both on graphene and between the layers of bilayer graphene. We find that the calculated diffusion barrier for the O atom increases slightly from 0.81 eV on graphene to 0.85 eV within bilayer graphene, while that for the F atom largely decreases from 0.30 eV on graphene to 0.18 eV within bilayer graphene. Such contrasting behaviors of the O and F diffusions within bilayer graphene can be traced to their different bonding natures: i.e., the O adatom that shows strongly covalent C–O– C bonding on the bridge site of the C–C bond diffuses on one graphene layer with a slight interference of the other layer, while the F adatom that shows semi-ionic F–C bonding on top of a C atom easily diffuses by hopping between two graphene layers by accepting more electron charges from the two layers. The present findings have important implications for the understanding of the diffusion processes of F and O atoms on graphene and within bilayer graphene. |

ABSTRACT | Using first-principles density-functional theory (DFT) calculations with/without including the spin- orbit coupling (SOC), we systematically investigate the (4/3)-monolayer structure of Pb on the Si(111) or Ge(111) surface within the two competing structural models termed the H3 and T4 structures. We find that the SOC influences the relative stability of the two structures in both the Pb/Si(111) and the Pb/Ge(111) systems, i.e., our DFT calculation without including the SOC predicts that the T4 structure is energetically favored over the H3 structure by E = 25 meV for Pb/Si(111) and 22 meV for Pb/Ge(111), but the inclusion of SOC reverses their relative stability as E = −12 and −7 meV, respectively. Our analysis shows that the SOC-induced switching of the ground state is attributed to a more asymmetric surface charge distribution in the H3 structure compared to the T4 structure, which is associated with the hybridization of the Pb px , py , and pz orbitals. This asymmetry of surface charge distribution gives rise to a relatively larger Rashba spin splitting of surface states as well as a relatively larger pseudogap opening in the H3 structure. By the nudged elastic-band calculation, we obtain a sizable energy barrier from the H3 to the T4 structure as ~0.59 and ~0.27 eV for Pb/Si(111) and Pb/Ge(111), respectively. Based on the predicted thermodynamics and kinetics of Pb/Si(111) and Pb/Ge(111), we suggest not only the coexistence of the two energetically competing structures at low temperatures, but also the order- disorder transition at high temperatures. |

ABSTRACT | It has been a long-standing puzzle why buckled dimers of the Si(001) surface appeared symmetric below 20 K in scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) experiments. Although such symmetric dimer images were concluded to be due to an artifact induced by STM measurements, its underlying mechanism is still veiled. Here,we demonstrate, based on a first-principles density-functional theory calculation, that the symmetric dimer images are originated from the flip-flop motion of buckled dimers, driven by quantum tunneling (QT). It is revealed that at low temperature the tunneling- induced surface charging with holes reduces the energy barrier for the flipping of buckled dimers, thereby giving rise to a sizable QT-driven frequency of the flip-flop motion. However, such a QT phenomenon becomes marginal in the tunneling-induced surface charging with electrons. Our findings provide an explanation for low-temperature STM data that exhibits apparent symmetric (buckled) dimer structure in the filled-state (empty-state) images. |

ABSTRACT | The exploration of topological states is of significant fundamental and practical importance in contemporary condensed matter physics, for which the extension to two-dimensional (2D) organometallic systems is particularly attractive. Using first-principles calculations, we show that a 2D hexagonal triphenyl-lead lattice composed of only main group elements is susceptible to a magnetic instability, characterized by a considerably more stable antiferromagnetic (AFM) insulating state rather than the topologically nontrivial quantum spin Hall state proposed recently. Even though this AFM phase is topologically trivial, it possesses an intricate emergent degree of freedom, defined by the product of spin and valley indices, leading to Berry curvature-induced spin and valley currents under electron or hole doping. Furthermore, such a trivial band insulator can be tuned into a topologically nontrivial matter by the application of an out-of-plane electric field, which destroys the AFM order, favoring instead ferrimagnetic spin ordering and a quantum anomalous Hall state with a non-zero topological invariant. These findings further enrich our understanding of 2D hexagonal organometallic lattices for potential applications in spintronics and valleytronics. |

ABSTRACT | The search for one-dimensional electron systems with a giant Rashba-type spin splitting is of importance for the application of spin transport. Here we report, based on a first-principles density- functional-theory calculation, that Bi zigzag chains formed on a heterogeneous GaAs(110) surface have a giant spin splitting of surface states. This giant spin splitting is revealed to originate from spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and electric dipole interaction that are significantly enhanced by (i) the asymmetric surface charge distribution due to the strong SOC-induced hybridization of the Bi px , py , and pz orbitals and (ii) the large out-of-plane and in-plane potential gradients generated by two geometrically and electronically inequivalent Bi atoms bonding to Ga and As atoms. The results demonstrate an important implication of the in-plane and out-of-plane asymmetry of the Bi/GaAs(110) interface system in producing the giant spin splitting with the in-plane and out-of- plane spin components. |

ABSTRACT | The insulating ground state of the 5d transition metal oxide CaIrO3 has been classified as a Mott- type insulator. Based on a systematic density functional theory (DFT) study with local, semilocal, and hybrid exchange-correlation functionals, we reveal that the Ir t2g states exhibit large splittings and one-dimensional electronic states along the c axis due to a tetragonal crystal field. Our hybrid DFT calculation adequately describes the antiferromagnetic (AFM) order along the c direction via a superexchange interaction between Ir4þ spins. Furthermore, the spin-orbit coupling (SOC) hybridizes the t2g states to open an insulating gap. These results indicate that CaIrO3 can be represented as a spin-orbit Slater insulator, driven by the interplay between a long-range AFM order and the SOC. Such a Slater mechanism for the gap formation is also demonstrated by the DFT + dynamical mean field theory calculation, where the metal- insulator transition and the paramagnetic to AFM phase transition are concomitant with each other. |

They are computed from the ADHM quantum mechanics of the D0-D4-O4 systems. Our partition functions respect S-dualities of the circle compactified Yang-Mills theories and various orientifold backgrounds. We also compute and study the S^5 partition functions that correspond to the 6d (2,0) superconformal indices. Our SO(2N) index takes the form of the vacuum character of W_D algebra in a special limit, supporting the W algebra conjecture. We propose new indices for (2,0) theories with outer automorphism twists along the temporal circle, obtained from non-simply-laced SYMs on S^5. |

ABSTRACT | Spin current plays a central role in spintronics. In particular, finding more efficient ways to generate spin current has been an important issue and studied actively. For example, representative methods of spin current generation include spin polarized current injections from ferromagnetic metals, spin Hall effect, and spin battery. Here we theoretically propose a new mechanism of spin current generation based on nonlinear phenomena. By using Boltzmann transport theory, we show that a simple application of the electric field bm{E} induces spin current proportional to bm{E^2} in noncentrosymmetric spin-orbit coupled systems. We demonstrate that the nonlinear spin current of the proposed mechanism is supported in the surface state of three-dimensional topological insulators and two-dimensional semiconductors with the Rashba and/or Dresselhaus interaction. In the latter case, the angular dependence of the nonlinear spin current can be manipulated by the direction of the electric field and by the ratio of the Rashba and Dresselhaus interactions. We find that the magnitude of the spin current largely exceeds those in the previous methods for a reasonable magnitude of the electric field. Furthermore, we show that application of AC electric fields (e.g. terahertz light) leads to the rectifying effect of the spin current where DC spin current is generated. These findings will pave a new route to manipulate the spin current in noncentrosymmetric crystals. |

ABSTRACT | We investigate the quantum phase transition of the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model by inspecting the two-site entanglements in the ground state. It is shown that the topological phase transition of the SSH model is signified by a nonanalyticity of local entanglement, which becomes discontinuous for finite even system sizes, and that this nonanalyticity ha has a topological origin. Such a peculiar singularity has a universal na nature in one has a topological origin. Such a peculiar singularity has a universal nature in one-dimensional topological phase transitions of noninteracting fermions. We make this clearer by pointing out that an analogous quantity in the Kitaev chain exhibiting the identical nonanalyticity is the local electron density. As a byproduct, we show that there exists a different type of phase transition, whereby the pattern of the two-site entanglements undergoes a sudden change. This transition is cha characterised characterised solely by quantum information theory and does not accompany the closure of the spectral gap. We analyse the scaling b behaviours behaviours of the entanglement in the vicinities of the transition points. |

ABSTRACT | A hallmark of Weyl semimetal is the existence of surface Fermi arcs connecting two surface-projected Weyl nodes with opposite chiralities. An intriguing question is what determines the connectivity of surface Fermi arcs, when multiple pairs of Weyl nodes are present. To answer this question, we first show that the locations of surface Fermi arcs are predominantly determined by the condition that the Zak phase integrated along the normal direction to the surface is π. More importantly, the Zak phase can reveal the peculiar topological structure of Weyl semimetal directly in the bulk. Here, we show that the non-trivial winding of the Zak phase around each projected Weyl node manifests itself as a topological defect of the Wannier-Stark ladder, the energy eigenstates emerging under an electric field. Remarkably, this structure leads to bulk Fermi arcs, i.e., open line segments in the bulk momentum spectra. It is argued that bulk Fermi arcs should exist in conjunction with the surface counterparts to conserve the Weyl fermion number under an electric field, which is supported by explicit numerical evidence. |

TITLE | Shift charge and spin photocurrents in Dirac surface states of topological insulator |

ABSTRACT | The generation of photocurrent in condensed matter is of main interest for photovoltaic and optoelectronic applications. Shift current, a nonlinear photoresponse, has attracted recent intensive attention as a dominant player of bulk photovoltaic effect in ferroelectric materials. In three dimensional topological insulators Bi_2X_3 (X: Te, Se), we find that Dirac surface states with a hexagonal warping term carry shift current by linearly polarized light. In addition, shift spin-current is introduced with the time-reversal symmetry breaking perturbation. The estimate for the magnitudes of the shift charge- and spin-currents are 0.13 I_0 and 0.21 I_0(nA/m) with the intensity of light I_0 measured in (W/m2), respectively, which can offer a useful method to generate these currents efficiently. |

ABSTRACT | The effect of surface disorder on electronic systems is particularly interesting for topological phases with surface and edge states. Using exact diagonalization, it has been demonstrated that the surface states of a 3D topological insulator survive strong surface disorder, and simply get pushed to a clean part of the bulk. Here we explore a new method which analytically eliminates the clean bulk, and reduces a D-dimensional problem to a Hamiltonian-diagonalization problem within the (D−1)- dimensional disordered surface. This dramatic reduction in complexity allows the analysis of significantly bigger systems than is possible with exact diagonalization. We use our method to analyze a 2D topological spin-Hall insulator with non-magnetic and magnetic edge impurities, and we calculate the probability density (or local density of states) of the zero- energy eigenstates as a function of edge-parallel momentum and layer index. Our analysis reveals that the system size needed to reach behavior in the thermodynamic limit increases with disorder. We also compute the edge conductance as a function of disorder strength, and chart a lower bound for the length scale marking the crossover to the thermodynamic limit. |

ABSTRACT | We theoretically study the macroscopic quantum entanglement in superconducting flux qubits. A phase-coupling scheme is proposed to offer enough strength of interactions between qubits. It is shown that due to the two-qubit tunneling processes both the ground state and excited states of coupled two flux qubits can be Bell type states, maximally entangled, in experimentally accessible regimes. The parameter regimes for the Bell states are discussed in terms of external magnetic flux and Josephson coupling energies. We also investigate two types of genuine three-qubit entanglement, known as the Greenberger-Horne- Zeilinger(GHZ) and W states. While an excited state can be the W state, the GHZ state is formed at the ground state of the coupled three flux qubits. The GHZ and W states are shown to be robust against external flux fluctuations for feasible experimental realizations. |

The discriminating Rabi oscillation for the controlled-NOT gate operation requires a strong coupling which is obtainable using a phase-coupling scheme. We also discuss how the coupled-qubit operations can be performed at the optimal point. |

ABSTRACT | We propose a new phase qubit in an SIFIS junction, consisting of bulk superconductors (S), a ferromagnet (F), and insulating barriers (I). The qubit state is constituted by the 0 and the $pi$ phase states of the junction, in which the charging energy of the barriers leads to the superposition of the two states. The qubit is operated by the gate voltage applied to the ferromagnet, and insensitive to the decoherences existing in other superconducting qubits. We discuss a scalable scheme for qubit measurement and tunable two-qubit coupling. |

ABSTRACT | We study Kondo physics in the algebraic spin liquid, recently proposed t o describe $ZnCu_{3}(OH)_{6}Cl_{2}$ [Phys. Rev. Lett. {bf 98}, 1 17205 (2007)]. Although the spin dynamics of the algebraic spin liquid is d escribed by massless Dirac fermions, this problem differs from the P seudogap Kondo model, because the bulk physics in the algebraic spin l iquid is governed by an interacting fixed point where well-defined q uasiparticle excitations are not allowed. Considering an effective bulk m odel characterized by an anomalous critical exponent, we derive an e ffective impurity action in the slave-boson context. Performing the large-$ N_{sigma}$ analysis with a spin index $N_{sigma}$, we find an i mpurity quantum phase transition from a decoupled local-moment state to a Kondo-screened phase. We evaluate the impurity spin susceptibility a nd specific heat coefficient at zero temperature, and find that such r esponses follow power-law dependencies modified by the anomalous e xponent of the algebraic spin liquid. Our main finding is that the Wilsons r atio for the magnetic impurity depends strongly on the critical exponent in t he zero temperature limit. We propose that the Wilsons ratio for the m agnetic impurity may be one possible probe to reveal criticality of the b ulk system. |

ABSTRACT | We investigate how the antiferromagnetic Mott insulator (AF-MI) evolves i nto the high $T_{c}$ superconductor (HTc-SC) through hole doping. A llowing spin fluctuations in the strong coupling approach, we find a s pin-gapped incoherent metal with preformed pairing as an intermediate p hase between the AF-MI and HTc-SC. This non-Fermi liquid metal is i dentified with an infrared stable fixed point in the spin-decomposition g auge theory, analogous to the spin liquid insulator in the slave-boson g auge theory. We discuss how its presence can explain that onset of s uperconductivity results in coherence of elementary excitations. |

ABSTRACT | Realizable spin models are investigated in a two superconducting flux qubit system. It is shown that a specific adjustment of system parameters in the two flux qubit system makes it possible to realize an artificial two- spin system that cannot be found naturally. For the artificial two-spin systems, time evolution of a prepared quantum state is discussed to quantify quantum entanglement dynamics. The concurrence and fidelity as a function of time are shown to reveal a characteristic entanglement dynamics of the artificial spin systems. It is found that the unentangled input state can evolute to be a maximally entangled output state periodically due to the exchange interactions induced by two-qubit flipping tunneling processes while single-qubit flipping tunneling processes plays a role of magnetic fields for the artificial spins. |

Superconducting flux qubits are considered theoretically in order to generate such states. Many-qubit states based on current states can be manipulated through the current-phase relation in each superconducting loop. For flux qubit systems comprised of $N$ qubit loops, a general expression of low energy Hamiltonian is presented in terms of low energy levels of qubits and macroscopic quantum tunnelings between the many- qubit states. Many-qubit interactions classified by {em Ising type- or tunnel-} exchange interactions can be observable experimentally. Flux qubit systems can provide various artificial-spin systems to study many-body systems that cannot be found naturally. |

To manipulate the state of two flux qubits, a Josephson junction is introduced in the connecting loop coupling the qubits. Increasing the coupling energy of the Josephson junction makes it possible to achieve relatively strong coupling between the qubits, causing two-qubit tunneling processes even dominant over the single-qubit tunneling process in the states of two qubits. It is shown that due to the two-qubit tunneling processes both the ground state and excited state of the coupled flux qubits can be a Bell type state, maximally entangled. ABSTRACT | We study the effect of the phase shift, $eta$, of the electron wave function due to the Andreev reflection process on the currents of superconducting/normal/superconducting (SNS) junctions and of normal/superconducting (NS) loops with an Aharonov-Bohm flux. We show that the current conservation condition is crucial in obtaining the currents of the SNS junctions and the NS loops. The persistent currents of NS loop shows the periodicity of the superconducting unit flux quantum, $Phi_0/2$, regardless of the length of the normal sector or the superconducting sector, when the energy splitting $E$ is smaller than the pair potential $Delta$. In the limit, $Ell Delta$, we obtain a Josephson type formula, $Ipropto sqrt{Delta}sin (pi/2-2eta)$, by minimizing the free energy of the NS loop. |

ABSTRACT | Stomata respond in a common pattern to various hydraulic perturbations on any part of the ‘soil–plant–air’ system: initial transient ‘wrong-way’ responses and final stationary ‘right- way’ responses. In order to describe this pattern on the basis of statistical physics, we propose a simple model where turgor pressure of a cell is taken to be a power function of its volume, and obtain results in qualitative agreement with experimental data for responses to a variety of hydraulic perturbations: Firstly, stationary stomatal conductance as a function of the vapor pressure deficit divides into three regimes characterized by sensitivities of the stomatal conductance and the transpiration rate with respect to vapor pressure deficit; secondly, for every hydraulic perturbation, the initial transient ‘wrong- way’ responses always appear; thirdly, on condition that water is supplied insufficiently, stomatal oscillations are often observed; finally, stomatal responses following leaf excision exhibit, after the initial transient wrong-way responses, slow relaxation to stomatal closing. In particular, comparison of areoles having different numbers of stomata demonstrates that areoles with small numbers of stomata tend to provoke lack of water in the soil as well as in the plant. In addition, our model also describes well dependence of the stomatal conductance on temperature. It may be extended further to describe stomatal responses to other environmental factors such as carbon dioxide, light, and temperature. |

ABSTRACT | The insulating ground state of the 5d transition metal oxide CaIrO3 has been classified as a Mott-type insulator. Based on a systematic density functional theory (DFT) study with local, semilocal, and hybrid exchange- correlation functionals, we reveal that the Ir t2g states exhibit large splittings and one- dimensional electronic states along the c axis due to a tetragonal crystal field. Our hybrid DFT calculation adequately describes the antiferromagnetic (AFM) order along the c direction via a superexchange interaction between Ir4+ spins. Furthermore, the spin-orbit coupling (SOC) hybridizes the t2g states to open an insulating gap. These results indicate that CaIrO3 can be represented as a spin-orbit Slater insulator, driven by the interplay between a long- range AFM order and the SOC. Such a Slater mechanism for the gap formation is also demonstrated by the DFT + dynamical mean field theory calculation, where the metal- insulator transition and the paramagnetic to AFM phase transition are concomitant with each other. |

ABSTRACT | The Sn overlayer on the Si(111) surface has been considered as a prototypical system for exploring two dimensional (2D) correlated physics on the triangular lattice. Most of the previous theoretical studies were based on the presumption that the surface state dominantly originates from Sn dangling-bond (DB) electrons, leading to a strongly correlated 2D electronic system. By contrast, our density-functional theory calculations show that the Sn DB state significantly hybridizes with Si substrate states to form a resonant state. The strong resonance between the Sn 5p_z and Si 3p_z orbitals facilitates the recently observed antiferromagnetic order through superexchange interactions, giving rise to a band-gap opening. It is thus demonstrated that the insulating ground state of Sn/Si(111) can be characterized as a Slater- type insulator via band magnetism. |

ABSTRACT | A radiative model of quark and lepton masses utilizing the binary tetrahedral (T′) flavor symmetry, or horizontal symmetry, is proposed which produces the first two generation of quark masses through their interactions with vector-like quarks that carry charges under an additional U(1). By softly-breaking the T′ to a residual Z4 through the vector-like quark masses, a CKM mixing angle close to the Cabibbo angle is produced. In order to generate the cobimaximal neutrino oscillation pattern (θ13≠0,θ23=π/4,δCP=±π/2) and protect the horizontal symmetry from arbitrary corrections in the lepton sector, there are automatically two stabilizing symmetries in the dark sector. Several benchmark cases where the correct relic density is achieved in a multi-component DM scenario and the potential collider signatures of the vector-like quarks are discussed. |

ABSTRACT | In the so-called (2,2) theory, which is the U(N)^4 circular quiver superconformal Chern-Simons theory with levels (k,0,-k,0), it was known that the instanton effects are described by the free energy of topological strings whose Gopakumar-Vafa invariants coincide with those of the local D_5 del Pezzo geometry. By considering two types of one-parameter rank deformations U(N) x U(N+M) x U(N+2M) x U(N+M) and U(N+M) x U(N) x U(N+M) x U(N), we classify the known diagonal BPS indices by degrees. Together with other two types of one-parameter deformations, we further propose the topological string expression when both of the above two deformations are turned on. |

ABSTRACT | In this paper the free energy of the mass deformed ABJM theory on S^3 in the large N limit is studied. We find a new solution of the large N saddle point equation which exists for an arbitrary value of the mass parameter, and compute the free energies for these solutions. We also show that the solution corresponding to an asymptotically AdS_4 geometry is singular at a certain value of the mass parameter and does not exist over this critical value. It is not clear what the gravity dual of the mass deformed ABJM theory on S^3 for the mass parameter larger than the critical value is. |

In the lepton sector, we can fit the charged lepton mass ratios, the neutrino mass squared difference ratio, and the lepton mixing angles, considering all three families. |

ABSTRACT | We extend the coupling to the topological backgrounds, recently worked out for the 2-dimensional BF-model, to the most general Poisson sigma models. The coupling involves the choice of a Casimir function on the target manifold and modifies the BRST transformations. This in turn induces a change in the BRST cohomology of the resulting theory. The observables of the coupled theory are analyzed and their geometrical intrepretation intrepretation is given. We finally couple the theory to 2-dimensional topological gravity: this is the first step to study a topological string theory in propagation on a Poisson manifold. As an application, we show that the gauge-fixed vectorial supersymmetry of the Poisson sigma models has a natural explanation in terms of the theory coupled to topological gravity. |

ABSTRACT | Bethe/Gauge correspondence as it is usually stated is ill-defined in five dimensions and needs a non-perturbative completion; a related problem also appears in three dimensions. It has been suggested that this problem, probably due to incompleteness of Omega background regularization in odd dimension, may be solved if we consider gauge theory on compact S^5 and S^3 geometries. We will develop this idea further by giving a full Bethe/Gauge correspondence dictionary on S^5 and S^3 focussing mainly on the eigenfunctions of (open and closed) relativistic 2-particle Toda chain and its quantized spectral curve: these are most properly written in terms of non-perturbatively completed NS open topological strings. A key ingredient is Faddeevs modular double structure which is naturally implemented by the S^5 and S^3 geometries. |
